Why Is The SIA Licence So Important For Door Supervisors?

Are you interested in working in the security industry? Then, you will need to be SIA accredited and hold a valid SIA licence. This type of licence is needed for many reasons when working in security. If you are hoping to become a door supervisor, you may be looking to get started in your career. In this article, we will explain what an SIA licence is, why it is so important for door supervisors and how to apply for your SIA licence.

What Is An SIA Licence?

An SIA (Security Industry Authority) licence is a legal requirement in the UK for anyone who wishes to work in any area of security. From CCTV operators to security officers and door supervisors. Having an SIA licence shows that you’ve completed the proper training to certify you as someone who’s capable of delivering a professional and effective security service as well as showing that you’ve got no convictions which could impact your work.

There are two types of SIA licences – a front line licence and a non-front line licence. The main difference between them is a front line licence will allow you to be involved with security activities, deal with the public and respond to any issues or threats. If you are looking to become a door supervisor, you will need to apply for a front line SIA licence.

How To Apply For An SIA Licence

Once you’ve completed an accredited security course from an SIA approved training provider, you or your employer need to apply for your SIA licence This involves registering for an account on the SIA website and submitting a new licence application. You will need to provide documentation including a valid driving licence, passport, proof of address and so on. Any false information can jeopardise your application.

Most SIA licences are valid for a maximum of 3 years, therefore you will be required to apply for a licence renewal if you plan to continue working in a door supervisor role. You may have to undergo additional training such as first aid to keep up-to-date on security industry requirements. The renewal process can also be completed through your account on the SIA website. We recommend you renew your licence 3 to 4 months before your licence expires in order to give yourself enough time to process your renewal application and to avoid the situation of being unlicensed and unable to work.
