About the role

Role Purpose

The Burnley BID Warden provides a visible, proactive, and reassuring presence throughout Burnley town centre. This role supports a safe, welcoming environment by delivering high-quality public-facing security, assisting with the enforcement of the Public Space Protection Order (PSPO), and building strong relationships with local businesses, visitors, and partner organisations.

Key ResponsibilitiesPatrolling & Public Engagement

  • Carry out regular, high-visibility foot patrols across the BID area (completing all scheduled patrols per shift).
  • Wear branded uniform and body-worn video at all times.
  • Act as a visible deterrent to reduce anti-social behaviour and crime.
  • Provide friendly, professional assistance to businesses, visitors, and members of the public.

Incident Management & Reporting

  • Respond promptly to incidents reported through the BID radio network and company systems.
  • Support with issues such as shoplifting, street drinking, drug use, and begging.
  • Accurately record all incidents using company tools (e.g. DISC, CRM, Timegate, Jotform).
  • Submit digital patrol logs daily via the app portal.
  • Use digital clocking systems to verify patrols with time-stamped accuracy.
  • Record and log significant incidents using body-worn video to support incident reporting and evidence collection.

Collaboration & Enforcement Support

  • Work closely with Burnley BID, Charter Walk security, Burnley Council, the police, and CCTV operators to share intelligence and ensure effective communication.
  • Support enforcement of the PSPO as appropriate.
  • Act as the “eyes and ears” on the ground, identifying and escalating community safety concerns.
  • Provide witness statements and assist with court proceedings when required.

Community Safety & Environmental Support

  • Report environmental concerns such as graffiti, vandalism, and fly-tipping.
  • Monitor anti-social behaviour hotspots and increase visibility during peak risk periods.
  • Support the BID’s Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) while maintaining data protection standards in line with GDPR.


Candidate must have

Requirements

  • Valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence (essential).
  • Excellent communication and conflict management skills.
  • Previous experience in community-facing roles or town centre patrols (preferred).
  • Confident using radios, reporting software (e.g. DISC), and body-worn cameras.
  • Smart, professional appearance with commitment to wearing uniform.
  • Must carry SIA licence and company ID at all times.

Desirable

  • First Aid qualification.
  • Anti-terrorism awareness training.
  • Good knowledge of the Burnley area and BID structure.
