SIA: Modernising and improving our licensing services

The Security Industry Authority is continually improving the services it delivers to the private security industry. As part of the improvements, the SIA is modernising its licensing systems and developing new streamlined processes for SIA licence applicants, licence holders, and security businesses.
The improved licensing services will be more flexible and introduce new online facilities, which will provide better ways for:
- Licence applicants to manage their licence applications
- Licence holders to manage their licence account online
- Security businesses to have greater involvement with an individual’s licence application and ongoing licence account
The SIA will develop processes and systems that will benefit both individuals and security businesses.
- There will be new online licence accounts
- It will be easier to apply for a licence and to monitor the progress of a licence application
- It will be easier for licence holders to keep their personal details up to date
- There will be secure processes for individuals to give their consent to share their licence account information with their employer
For security businesses:
- It will be easier for businesses to manage licence applications on behalf of their staff
- It will be easier for employers to find relevant information about their employees’ licences
- There will be new ways for businesses to have greater involvement in their employees’ online licence account, where an individual has given consent
The SIA website will be improved to offer the new online facilities, and there will be more efficient ways of responding to enquires through digital and online channels.
Modernising the SIA systems will create closer working relationships between the SIA, security businesses, and licence holders. Individuals and businesses will benefit by saving time and money.
The SIA is also updating the SIA licence itself. The regulator listened to feedback from the industry and enforcement partners, and the SIA is taking the opportunity to combat fraud by introducing new security features within the licence.
The SIA is consulting the industry and partners as it develops the new facilities and considers how to introduce new systems and processes. This will minimise any inconvenience to security businesses and individuals, and ensure continuity of the SIA services.
The regulator has undertaken to continue to communicate further information about these changes in the coming months. - The Security Industry Authority is the organisation responsible for regulating the private security industry in the United Kingdom, reporting to the Home Secretary under the terms of the Private Security Industry Act 2001.
